Tajikistan officially became a member of the World Trade Organization on Dec. 10, 2012Duties are payable in local currency at a rate of exchange determined by the National Bank on the day a completed customs form is submitted.
Information regarding import duties applicable to specific products may be obtained from the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C., or from any Department of Commerce district office.
Specific duties: Alcohol and cigarette imports are subject to specific duties in fixed amounts based on the quantity of goods imported.
Ad valorem duties: Most import duties are assessed on an ad valorem basis, using the contract and any addenda to ascertain value. As part of its accession to the WTO, Tajikistan was required to adopt the WTO Customs Valuation Agreement (Article VII of the GATT).
