Announced on 28 January 2013, the U.S. Department of Commerce advises:  Japan has lessened restrictions on the import of beef from the U.S. to Japan which has been in effect since the mad cow desease.  Japan will now except beef/beef products from cows where their age is up to 30 months old instead of  the previous 20 months old.  Up to 90% of beef imports come from the United States.  This will be in effect starting 1 February 2013.
